A BRIEF HISTORY
KIWANIS CLUB OF EAST NORWICH OYSTER BAY

The Kiwanis Club of East Norwich Oyster Bay was chartered on December 26, 1956 as the Kiwanis Club of East Norwich. It originally met at Rothman’s Restaurant in East Norwich. Later the club moved its meeting place to the Maine Maid Inn, Jericho, New York. The club name was changed to East Norwich, Muttontown, Brookvilles, Oyster Bay. A few years ago, the name was shortened to East Norwich-Oyster Bay.
Over the years the Kiwanis Club of East Norwich Oyster Bay, has been an active club in the Long Island North Division, of the New York District, Kiwanis International. It has sponsored a Key Club at the Lutheran High School, Jericho, New York and participated in the Apple Festival sponsored by the Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf. One of its biggest fund raisers was the sale of beer at the Oyster Festival sponsored by the Oyster Bay Chamber of Commerce. The club each year gave the largest scholarship to a deserving Oyster Bay High School graduate, in memory of one of the club’s presidents The Late Marce Sola, 1965. The club also donated a sign, and did a clean-up for the Pine Hollow Cemetery of the A.M.E. Zion Church of Oyster Bay. Working together the members built and donated a picnic table to the AHRC.
Today, the club is still working hard. We currently have 18 active members and continue to consistently complete the requirements for becoming a distinguished club. We are the proud sponsors of Boy Scout Troop 253, Theodore Roosevelt Council, the Kiwanis Club of Great Neck Peninsula, the Great Neck North High School Key Club and St. Dominic High School Key Club. Our club has donated 4 Pediatric Trauma Kits to the local Fire Departments: one to East Norwich, in memory of members of our club who were members of the Fire Department; one each to the Oyster Bay and Atlantic Steamer Fire Departments; one to the Williamstown Fire Department in upstate, NY.
Our club is proud to have produced, an Honorary Governor and Key Club Administrator for the NY District, Michael D’Auria, and six Lt. Governors:  PLG Philip Munson, PLG Victor DeBellis, PLG Rev. Kenneth Nelson, PLG Edward “Woody” Ryder, PLG Steve Bernheim and PLG Rev. Rosita A. George Williams.
